Solved - private browsing was enabled! Thanks for all your suggestions though, I feel that I've wasted everyone time, apologies.

Now if all the little shortcuts icons would reappear at some point!

If you have them Bookmarked or saved as favorites then go to settings Safari and Favorites and tick the ones you want to show. you need to have them showing in your lists as individual entries or all together in one group as this function is quite limited
