Brighton Workhouse in St Peter District 1862 Ellen Shoosmith
« on: Sunday 23 August 15 17:26 BST (UK) »
Hello,
After doing a forum search on Brighton workhouses a lot of the links are re-directed now. Can anyone please point me in the direction for any records for a work house in the St Peter District of Brighton.

My 4th Gt Grandma (Ellen Louise Shoosmith b1834) is not on the 1861 census and when her Child is born in 1862 (Frederick Shoosmith) it states he was born in the workhouse and the mothers residence was the workhouse - With no father listed.
1851 and 1871 census my 4th Gt Grandma is living with her parents.

I would be looking for these records, does anyone have any idea of the workhouse in question and where I could possible look up such records?

Many thanks!
Cowell - Thanet, Kent, England

From the Peter Higginbotham site:

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Brighton/

Scroll to the end and it shows records kept at East Sussex Record Office.

ESCC archives are now at The Keep, just outside Brighton.   If you search http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/     You will see that West Sussex Archives at Chichester have some as well.
