Barnes family in Edmondton -10 boys
« on: Friday 28 August 15 19:40 BST (UK) »
Hi
My Grandfather was Thomas Arthur Barnes b 1910 his mother was Clara Jefferies and father Jack/John Barnes - he had 9 brothers - the following are known to be Claras children Ralph and Stan who were twins, Charlies, Herbert Victor (Bert) Edward (Eddie), John is known to have had 4 boys older - Sidney, John who died in WW2, Frank and one other. I have details for Clara up to and including the 1901 census but nothing after that. The family are not showing in the 1911 census. It is possible that Clara and Jack/John did not marry although her death certicifate identifies her as Barnes.
any help on identifing Jack/John would be gratefully received thank you

They are on the 1911 in New Southgate, Edmonton.

I think this could be their marriage from info there, second marriage for Clara?

The marriage record of Clara Kate Blackwell shows her to be a spinster, father's name - Richard
Blackwell (deceased)

Can't see a marriage of a Clara Jefferies to John Barnes  ???

I think you may be right.

This looks like Clara's family in 1901 - the sister May is there! Where was Clara, is she already with John?

I have found Clara in 1891 Census with her parents Tom and Eunice Jefferies.
I have found via Oswold the Barnes family in 1901 with John's first wife Sarah who appears to have died in child birth in 1906 - I was aware that the 'marriage' to Clara was a second marriage for John as my grandfather was the first born of John and Clara and he had four older brothers. However I can find no trace of Clara in 1901.

This looks like Clara in 1901. Wrong place of birth, but her employer would have entered the details and it is where her family were in 1901, so she may just have assumed that was where she was born

Thank you Groom - I think you may be right. I know via my mother that Clara went to help with the care of the four older Barnes boys around 1906 following the death of their mother. Working on the age that was given as Clara's when she died, her DoB varied greatly.
