Tharston Seaman Memorial
« on: Saturday 29 August 15 09:40 BST (UK) »
A memorial in Tharston, Norfolk shows:

IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF • JAMES SEAMAN • WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE • JUNE 18TH 1881 • IN THE 53RD YEAR OF HIS AGE. • “IN THE MIDST OF LIFE WE ARE IN DEATH .“ • ALSO ANN SEAMAN HIS WIFE • WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE • APRIL 30TH 1851 • IN THE 21ST YEAR OF HER AGE • “THE LORD GAVE AND THE LORD HATH • TAKEN AWAY.”

The memorial inscription is extremely clear but when using this information I cannot find their wedding.

I would be most grateful if anyone could help to find a reference to their wedding.

Not sure that this will help with a marriage but this could be Ann Seaman and son Leo in 1851 - living with her mother in Wisbech

Forget this Ann she appears in 1861!

Burial at Tharston reads Ann Seaman alias Chapple age 21, Home parish Highgate near Lynn.
Its possible her maiden name was Chapple, but you may find the marriage there.

Thanks for this, amondg, but where does the alias Chapple come from? It's not on the memorial.

Have found the reference to the alias!

Looking at the Tharston parish records there are entries,

27 Oct 1872   G   CHAPPEL   John Seaman   B   (marriage)
10 Aug 1845   CHAPPLE   George   -   Sarah Seaman   CHAPPLE  (baptism)

which indicate possible links between the families ......

I think the Ann Seaman I originally posted in 1851 with son Leo may have been correct

This looks likes the death of the son Leo in  Michigan in 1923  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KF3W-J94    The Leo's mother's maiden name listed of Claple is very close to Chapple.   I presume James remarried as Leo was living with parents James and Ann in 1861 in Little Tew, Oxfordshire RG 9 Piece 912 Folio 73 Page 9

Could James Seaman have been baptised James Seaman Chapman?

The Tharston baptisms show several children baptised to Anne Chapman on 28 Oct 1838(inc James Seaman Chapman) and also on the same date another child baptised to James Seaman and Anne Chapman.
