stumped...
« on: Monday 31 August 15 01:04 BST (UK) »
William Thompson [whose father named the same with an occupation of weaver], aged 54 being a widower of Portsmouth married 29th of November in 1881. His wife was Ann Shergold nee Gray also a widow was the daughter of Charles Gray a glovercutter.
[ referred to as page 240 no 479] with witnesses John & Annette Maria.......

Heres the problem.....

1. I cant find the certificate reference number.
2. I cant find the Gray to Shergold marriage
3. I cant find any census or DOB or DODs for anyone in the whole group.

Please enlighten me to some information to unravel the mystery........    my thought was maybe Ann was born Gray then married, then remarried to a Shergold then married again to Thompson???
But to be honest I wouldnt have a clue....

Thanks.

M

Okay, this is a bit strange, given that so far everything else seems to fit the information you have previously provided.  It shows that Ann was MEAD not GRAY??  I will see if I can sort out what's going on with her...

Until then, it appears that this is them again

Most likely that is Ann's first husband. Given that her children were so young, no doubt she was in need of a wage earner and father for them, hence the quick re-marriage.
