Fanny Laversuch marriage John Smith, 1871 - 1873
« on: Monday 31 August 15 11:40 BST (UK) »
Fanny Laversuch is in 1871 census with her parents as -
Frances Smith, Daur, Unm, F, 18, Servant, Staff, Hilltop
Temporary Hut No 21, Wollaton, Nottinghamshire

Birth registration probably
Birth Wolverhampton
LAVERSUCH Fanny
Sep qtr 1853 Vol 6b p342

I found a baptism in 1868 in Sheffield age 14, the family were in Sheffield at that time.

Cannot find Fanny and family in 1861 census, but that is not what I am asking for at this time, I think they may have been missed out, possibly on the move or somesuch.

The trail ran cold after 1871 census, no further references found until today, when I googled 'Fanny Laversuch' and found a message board post which appeared to indicate that she may have married a 'Smith'.

http://www.GenesReunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_chat/thread/132168?d=desc
Carlton Smith

I think I have found her in 1881, 1891 and 1901 census, with some of the children as mentioned in the post, but I cannot find a marriage for her.  First known child was John Smith, born c. 1873, Radford, Nottinghamshire, so I think the marriage may have been in Nottinghamshire between 1871 and 1873, though the Laversuch family had moved on to Sedburgh, Yorkshire by Nov 1872.

I have looked in the usual places but cannot find this marriage.  It could have been a second marriage for John, the older children not Fanny's, therefore the marriage between 1871 and 1881.

Any ideas anyone?

Whoops, I meant to post on Nottinghamshire board!

Anyway of changing the board, or do I need to delete this one, repost on Nottinghamshire?

Not sure if I am doubling up on info and whilst looking playing with the 2 surnames, I came across a Mary Ann Fraversuch married 1851 with a correction to Laversuch

HO107/1734/279/24

Age:    18
Estimated birth year:    abt 1833
Relation:    Daughter
Father's name:    Thomas Newman
Mother's name:    Elizabeth Newman
Gender:    Female
Where born:    Middleton Cheney, Northamptonshire, England
Civil Parish:    Middleton Cheney

she is a rail labourers wife, am just chasing it round as I can see they use the different surnames. Son William also has a prison record, Laversuch and in Sheffield

There's also a baptism

Name:    James Daniel Laversuch
Birth Date:    Abt 1852
Baptism Date:    27 Jun 1852
Age:    0
Parish:    Middleton Cheney, Northamptonshire, England
Father:    John Laversuch
Mother:    Mary Laversuch
Parish as it Appears:    Middleton Cheney
Register Type:    Bishops Transcripts

He is a railway worker, address Birmingham, just in case it helps 1861. Know it isn't quite what you wanted but I was trying to decide on surnames and marriages. Not found the Smith connection but wondered if you could post 1881 for Fanny  :)

1891 census does not confirm Staffordshire as Fanny's birth place, but children's names/birthplaces consistent.  Without the marriage I cannot confirm that Fanny Smith's maiden name was Laversuch.  Her age is inconsistent throughout censuses, but I think the birthplace of Hilltop, Staffordshire makes it highly likely, tied in with the anecdotal evidence from Carlton Smith and Susan Black at GR.

I have James Daniel Laversuch born Sep Qtr 1851 as first known child of John Laversuch and Mary Newman.

I haven't seen any criminal records for William Laversuch - only found him in 1871, 1881 and 1911 census - if he was imprisoned, that may be why.

And also, what do you mean by 'He is a railway worker, address Birmingham, just in case it helps 1861'?  If you have found my Laversuch family in Birmingham, I would love to have the details, you will have made my day!!

Thanks for your input,
Margaret
