Annie Louisa Hart/ Smith- Halesowen
« on: Sunday 06 September 15 17:08 BST (UK) »
Seeking information about Annie Louisa Hart(known as louisa) born Twyning Glos in 1885 and died Halesowen about 1966.
I have had no difficulties tracing The Hart family line  but am having problems with Annie Louisa's life  from just pre World war 1 to the 1930's. In particular in relation to her marriages.
I know she married twice .Once to William Smith  and once to Alfred Smith (no idea if they were related)
Her son Ronald Alfred William Smith was born in 1922 (and died in 2010) and she may also  have lost a daughter - haven't found birth certificates.
By the 1930's she was a widow living with her son,two nieces and various lodgers at 39 Furnace Hill Halesowen.
There is a William H Smith on Halesowen war memorial which may be a possibility and I have been kindly directed to a book which may help with that but I cannot find for certain which husband was her first and which her second.
One of her husbands died in WW1 and the other, I believe, not too many years afterwards-possibly of war related injuries. His son did not remember him.
As Smith is such a common name I have been unable to trace war records so far.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

If you get the birth certificate for Ronald born 1922 you will see which husband was the father. From that you will see her other names - it will say farmerly for her maiden name and lately for a previous married name  and hopefully that will help decide the order of the marriages

Thank you.Wasn't sure if a second marriage cert would contain maiden name or previous marital name.

Hi,

This looks like a possible marriage,

1912
SMITH William H
HART Annie L
Halesowen, St John the Baptist

The GRO index shows,

William H SMITH    Sep Q  1912    Stourbridge    6c  271
Spouse Surname:  HART

and then there is this possible marriage,

Annie L SMITH    Mar Q 1918    Birmingham    6d  491
Alfred SMITH

I wonder if she had any other children, 35 seems quite old to have the first one :-\

Regards,
Daisy

Oh Thank you! how on Earth did I miss that? St Johns was the first place I looked!
she only had 2 children and only one survived. There were no children from her 1st marriage. She took in her sister Edith's children -my mother being one of them- as they were very little when Edith died.
She had already lost both her husbands by then.
