George Smith and Mary ??? Wilmslow, Styal, Northenden, Cheshire
« on: Sunday 06 September 15 20:07 BST (UK) »
Mary and George Smith

I can trace the Smith family back to the 1851 census as living at Moor End, Northenden but very little before this date
Mary ??? birth abt  1817 was born in Wilmslow/ Northenden depending on which census I read
George Smith birth abt 1812/13 born Northenden
Mary ??? and George Smith       married abt 1838 estimated on the birth of their first child
Thomas Smith born 1839 Styal, Cheshire
William Smith born abt 1843 Styal Cheshire
George Smith died 1893 and is buried in St Wilfrids, Northenden Cheshire
Mary  Smith died some time between 1871 -1881 no details of her death or burial
If anyone could help fill in the missing pieces of my family tree I would be very grateful
1, Where did George and Mary marry
2. Where were the family in 1841
3.  Where were Thomas and William baptised
4. When did Mary die and burial details

Thank you

Hi

Would you confirm the census ref for where you found the family in 1851?
Saves mistakes (by us) from the start?

HO 107 / 2162 / 193 / p14 ?

There would seem to be a couple of others however this one seems a reasonable fit.

Death 1880 Altrincham 8a 122 Mary Smith (64y)

Could this be Mary and Thomas in 1841 Census in Pownall Fee, Wilmslow?

Esther Wood, 60
John Wood, 20, Tailor
Mary Smith, 20, Cotton ....
Thomas Smith, 2

If so, then maybe Wood might be part of the family

There is a Mary Wood, Baptised in Wilmslow on 23rd February 1817 the daughter of John and Esther Wood

3.  Where were Thomas and William baptised

Baptised in the Parish of Northenden
I can't see Thomas but William was baptised 31 Oct 1841, abode Northen. George a Labourer.
Still living Northen when Hannah was baptised 27 Oct 1850, George now a Gardener.

Thank you very much for your replies.

Does the birth certificate always have the mother's maiden name?

The birth date for William Smith is abt 1843 and not 1941 as your suggestion for baptism. Was your William baptised at St Wilfrids.

Thank you
