Baptism confused!!
« on: Monday 07 September 15 16:14 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I'm looking into a family who i think maybe linked to mine but awaiting cert to verfy my hunch, anyway i thought i'd start looking into the family why i have some free time. I've found a baptism for one of the kids he was born 1867 but wasn't baptised till 1887! Is this unusual?

I found 5 children aged from 1 - 15, all baptised on the same day.
Luckily their birth dates were noted as well

Hi
When did William marry? Sometimes people were baptised just before marrying.

You had to be baptised to receive Communion, so this is why, sometimes, people got baptised before their wedding.
The Book of Common Prayer, has this comment: "It is convenient that the new-married persons should receive the holy Communion at the time of their Marriage, or at the first opportunity after their Marriage."
Adult baptism was quite common. There has always been a service in the Book of Common Prayer for the "Baptism of Those of Riper Years"
