« on: Tuesday 12 July 05 12:53 BST (UK) »
Not sure which section to post this in...

John Dearie to Matilda Boyd in New York (1 Nov 1876).  Where do I look for this information? Specifically Parents of John Dearie.

Thanks for any help
Scotland:  Deary, Dearie, Donald, Gear, Sturrock

We could try to find candidates in the census(es) and work back. Any ages/birthyears birthplaces, either from them or subsequent children?

John Dearie was a Gasworks Labourer and was born around 1860. Don't know if he was born in Scotland or USA.

Matilda Boyd died in Glasgow, Scotland on 6th Jan 1931. Don't know if she was born in Scotland or USA.

They had a son called William Dearie on 11th August 1889 in 21 Rumford Street, Glasgow, Scotland.

Perhaps the best place to start would be the pay-per-view site ScotlandsPeople at:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

The 1891 Scotland census should list the birthplaces of both John DEARIE and Matilda (BOYD) DEARIE.

Matilda's death cert should list her parents' names (including mother's maiden name if known).

Similarly if you can find the death of John DEARIE on SP ...

yes, I have been on this site and I have found the parents of matilda boyd, but I am not really interested in at the moment  :) I will follow that line at a later date.
I have found three John Dearies from 1861, two of which are illegitimate and from Glasgow's poor house and the other could be him, but I am unsure how to verify this!

Thanks for your help  :)

How did the couple end up in New York? .
Was there anything on say, Passenger lists?
Do you know when they came back from the USA?

Don't know the answer to any of those questions.  :(

Is it normal for a Glaswegian laborer of approximately 16 years of age to sail to New York and get married?

Okay, so did they have any kids and when/where were they born?

GIVE A FULL TRANSCRIPT OF ANY CENSUSES YOU HAVE THEM ON.
