Will That Mentions Annie Porter
« on: Wednesday 09 September 15 21:00 BST (UK) »
I know this is a shot in the dark!!!! However my great grandfather was Clarke Porter. His son Henry is my mothers father. My mother Annie was called after a family member who emigrated (she always said it was the US). As I now live in the US I would like to find out more about the person my mum was named after. The only way to know this information is to find a copy of the will she mentioned my mother in. I believe the will time period to be during the 1950's written in the US. A letter was sent to my mother who is from Tubermore to inform her of some inheritance. Would PRONI have a copy of this letter? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Not sure where 'Tubermore' is supposed to be- but since you mention PRONI do you mean Tobermore in County Londonderry? PRONI will only keep records for Wills that were probated in Northern Ireland.

If this 'Annie' died in America then you need to find out where she died- each state keeps their own records and within each state the location of Wills vary greatly.

You will probably have to start tracing all possible branches of your mother's family to find an Annie and then see if any did go to America, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you aghadowey.

I did mean Tobermore in County Londonderry. I have traced 2 Annie's from my mothers family but unfortunately it seems neither one emigrated to America.

May I also say thank you for your earlier posts. They have been of great help to me.
