Losing unread posts before I can read them all
« on: Saturday 12 September 15 12:12 BST (UK) »
When I got back from holiday there were 24 pages of unread posts.  I worked through 3 pages one day and expected to find a minimum of 21 pages the next day but there were only 2.

Where had the others gone?  Did they disappear because I had logged on and started reading them then logged off again?

Thanks.

I think they are titled "Unread Posts Since Your Last Visit"?

So, if you logout, or close down your RC session, you won't see them again!

Simple answer? Don't logout! ;D

If you scroll down "unread posts" you should find a link to "all unread topics".......that should find the missing pages for you..............I think.  :-\

Thanks, if I click on unread topics at the bottom it brings up 8344  :o

I generally log out after each session and always at night so next time will try staying logged in till I have caught up!

Not only don't log out, but don't close RC either.
When you close, as KGarrad says, you 'lose' all the unread ones, even if you are still logged in.
But you don't use the posts under 'New Replies'.
Since I discovered this, I leave the reading of  'New Replies' until after I've read all the others I want to, just in case...

The "New Replies" are the new replies to topics you've taken part in (or have pressed the "Notify" button for). For the new replies, even if you log off, and come back in they will stay there until you visit each post.

For the "Unread Posts", the list will clear the next time you log in. So it *should* only show you the new topics since you last logged in. So yes, if you look at the list right now, then log off, then log in again (say) tomorrow then you won't see the list from today. (I'm not sure if that makes sense)

Also, when you are logged in you can browse the board index (you press the Forum button). If you look at the kind of 'badges' they are brown (New) , green (New)  or grey (Read).

I've attached a screenshot.

The grey "Read" ones show that there are no updates to that board since you last looked in that board.
The brown "New" badge shows that there is an update in that board since you last had a peek.
The green "New" ones show that there is an update to a sub-board since you last looked, but no update to the parent board. So let's say the "Common Room" has a green badge next to it, it would mean that there is a new post in (say) the "Lighter Side", but not in the Common Room board itself.

Also, each topic you've not looked at since there was a reply will have a "new" flag over it.

Or scroll through all unread topics, as Nanny Jan points out reply #2  :)
