The marriage record would be useful if I could decipher the surname of Ann's father. He would appear to be a shipwright. Please can anyone decipher his surname?

Hi all:

Perhaps the Father's name is John Young. Not sure what the following word is - could that be part of his occupation? Its so small I'm not even sure I can read Shipwright.

From familysearch there was a possible marriage in 1840 between Ann Young and Charles Foley (2nd qu 1840 Stepney, London - Vol 2 / Pg 430 / Line 138)

Just a thought  :)

Thanks for continuing the search folks  :) It's certainly a strange one.

The marriage in 1840 between Ann Young and Charles Foley was an interesting find but the record shows her father was Bartholomew Young a Carpenter.

The criminal record is interesting too.

Think I probably need the birth certificate for Jane Coggins but the family are so illusive will it contain factual information about her mother's maiden name  ::)

Best wishes HL

Hard to get it clearer due to size of original.

Does this maybe not just say John Young (and denote husband)?

Jeanne

I think the marriage to Charles Foley that sami posted is correct.

Both Anns have signed with a very distinctive A.

A shipwright would need to be a carpenter.

There's a Bartholomew Young in Cottage Lane, Stepney, on the 1841 census aged 60

Baptism - 7/6/1778   Bartholomew Younghusband

I don't think so Jeanne, as it looks like one word and why would it have husband next to her father?

Do you mean this one?

Ann Coggins
Date of Trial:   13 Aug 1855
Middlesex, England

I can't work out what she was accused of, but her name has been crossed out and it says no prosecution.

The offence was Threatening, but as you say Ann Coggins and Mary Ann Rawlings were not prosecuted.

There does seem to be a John Younghusband and his family residing in Stepney on the 1841 and 1851  with subsequent marriages for some of their children. On the censuses John states Customs as his occupation.

That corresponds with the children's marriages...... but if Ann is their daughter she says Shipwright.
I believe one other marriage record said Ganger.

Do you think Ann could have been confused about his occupation?
Best wishes HL
