Distant cousin
« on: Sunday 13 September 15 11:37 BST (UK) »
Trying to find info on descendents  of Herbert Thomas Davies (born 1872 Haverfordwest) and his wife Edith (formerly Edith de Ferre Large).  Think they had a daughter Mabel born 1897.

Do you have them on the 1911 census ? We are not allowed to do lookups for 1911 for copyright reasons but if you look for Herbert Thomas Davies and Edith Defevre Davies you should find them listed with their children. There is an entry in the Probate Index for Edith De Ferre Davies who died 18 Jan 1935, estate to Mabel Caroline Phillips , wife of Frederick Herbert Phillips. Mabel Caroline Davies was born in 1908 ,rather than 1897 I think :

Mabel Caroline Davies J-S 1908 West Ham 4a 101.

The 1901 census is badly transcribed :

Herbert Hermas Darris b 1873 Fishguard
Edith De Forre Darris 24
Hugh Darris son 4

living in West Ham

..although she was two in the census.

Herbert died in Jan-Mar 1929 in West Ham.
One of his sons, Clarence William Davies, died in 1971 (b 18 Feb 1911).

Thank you thats helpful.  Did not realise Mabel had a brother but as she inherited the estate am guessing he had died.

She was not on the 1901 census and was 2 in the later census so definitely not born in 1897 !

The Probate listing does not show who inherited the estate just who was authorised to deal with it so you need to get the will to find out how the estate was dispersed. The brother and his family may be listed - he might have gone abroad so couldn't be named as an executor which is what Mabel was appointed as.

Look here https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills and you can buy it for£10.
