« on: Sunday 13 September 15 18:09 BST (UK) »
If a yearly  house rent was 5.3s.0d then ,  has anyone idea what the level of that accommodation might  be please, ??? maybe just a room rented within a house  ???

The property referred to is in Scotland .

Many thanks

Patrish  :)

The rent recorded on the valuation rolls is the valued rent. It might be that less was actually being charged/paid. Much depends on the address. It could be a tenement flat in a town or a cottage in the country. 5 3/- could go a long way then. If they were living at the same address in 1911, the census will tell you how many rooms with a window they had. What is the address?

Thank you for you reply,   No she was not living there on the 1911 census unfortunately,

This is from the VR  (On her child's birth certificate it is just given as Kingholm Quay, Dumfries.)

House, Kingholm Quay. Owned by Paterson, Executor of late Joseph per T.C. Farries, Irish Street, Dumfries.

I have discovered that T. C Farries had a warehouse there, beside the quay

Many thanks
