Sarah Wetton - Newhaven
« on: Sunday 13 September 15 21:03 BST (UK) »
On the 1851 my ancestor Sarah Roberts (nee Wetton) gave her place of birth as "Newhaven, Derbyshire".  She would have been baptised about 1783.  There doesn't seem to be church for this place and I wonder where the baptism might have been.  Any tips or successful searches appreciated.

Thanks

Both are approx 14 miles from Newhaven so may not be relevant

Newhaven is east of Hartington and west of Cromford.

When did they marry?  How do you know her maiden name was Wetton?

I saw both of those thanks but for me 14 miles seems like quite a long way from where Newhaven appears to be.

The marriage was 1803 in Burton.

Newhaven would be within the Hartington St Giles parish area being only a couples of miles away, there is also Biggin by Hartington, both of them have parish churches but Biggin by Hartington St Thomas wasn't built until 1847/8. So Hartington PRs might be a good place to start to look for her.

Family search don't have the earlier records for Hartington, Findmypast has records for St Giles , but it is a pay to view site.

Another thought though, Hartington is just outside the Staffordshire border, so as she married in Burton, Staffs maybe she might have baptised in that county?

Hi Shirl

I had wondered about Staffordshire, I think FindMyPast has good records for them too (luckily I'm a member of the site) so gives me a few searches I can try later this evening.

Thanks
