Tweedie family in Ireland
« on: Monday 14 September 15 15:31 BST (UK) »
I have drawn a blank with my on-line search to find a birth certificate for my Great Great Grandfather Robert Tweedie born in Ireland around 1852 or 53, son of James Tweedie and Margaret ( Hinds). He relocated to Scotland around 1870 . If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.
Thanks
Sandy

Hi Sandy welcome to Rootschat -  you will not find a Birth record prior to 1864 when civil registration was introduced - you will have to rely on Baptism record.  What denomination was Robert? www.nationalarchives.ie has various records including Censuses, Tithe Applotment & Griffith Valuation records.  I had a look at Tithes & Griffiths but no Tweedie surnames.  Do you know which county in Ireland the family originated - I found the name most prevalent in Antrim, Down, Armagh & Tyrone.Did Robert remain in Scotland? Regards Frances

Hi Frances, thanks for the v quick response.  I do know Robert was not an R.C. as he attended Church of Scotland when here. He lived the rest of his life in Scotland,  married and had 7 children however all the Scottish records simply say place of birth " Ireland"
