Belton Marriage: George Isset and Ann Coks
« on: Thursday 17 September 15 13:18 BST (UK) »
I would be most grateful for a look up of the marriage register for this marriage that took place on 21 Jul 1783 in Belton, Rutland.  I wondered whether there might be extra information available such as  whether either had been widowed or  came from another parish.

Thank you

Hi Barbara,

Trouble is this Judith (now Married by 1851 Census) doesnt have a Father born Rutland ???

Hi Trish
This is the family I am trying to trace back.  Judith is my gg grandmother.  She had an illegitimate child (the granddaughter Mary in the 51 census), then married  in 1850 William Simkin of Hallaton who was a widower.

Hannah Holmes, b Medbourne, her mother, married William Issit b 1791 in Tugby in 1815.  The bmds seem to be in Belton, Tugby and occasionally East Norton.  I have found mention of an Isset's Lodge at Keythorpe.
Looking at the photographs I don't think they lived in the Hall!

Well, that has thrown all my preconceived ideas out of the window.  I has assumed that the William born in 1791 was my ancestor and now you have discovered he died as an infant.  Back to the drawing board.

Thank you so much, Bunnygirl, for redirecting my search.  If Elizabeth was born the following year, there doesn't seem much time for another William to be born in the meantime.  I will have to try again.

Thanks for that info Bunnygirl.

It confirms what I was trying to say;;
Trouble is this Judith (now Married by 1851 Census) doesnt have a Father born Rutland .

So your William was born c 1786 Keythorpe. Leics, according to the 1851 Census.

Another question;
I cant find the Marriage of Judith Issitt/William Simkin.
Do you actually have the M/C Vixen60?
Is there a Ref for it on FreeBMD?
I can find Judith Issitt Marriage 1850 but no cross reference to William marrying that year.

If you have the M/C I would be interested to see what it said.

Trish :)

Hi Trish
I have a copy of the marriage certificate of Judith to William Simkin (widower) on 9th December 1850.
Her father described as William Issit shepherd.  Witnesses are Eliza N(H)orton and  William Haines, Harper or Warmer- a bit indecipherable.

I originally thought that William Issit was 60 on the 51 census, but a closer look is more like 66 than 60.  Although it says he was born at Keythorpe Lodge, I thought it was not beyond the bounds of possiblity that he had been baptised at Belton, which seemed to be the home of a lot of Issits/Issets.

I found another William Isset whom I considered strongly. He appears to have baptised at Tugby on  21 September 1783.  On the whole I think he is a much better candidate in terms of birth date and place.  He also has a sister Judith.  Parents William and Mary.
Tugby, Leics, Eng.  Not in the records of Family Search but in the genealogies if you seach Issits in Tugby.
Also found a widower William Issit marrying a Mary Jennals in Titlton on the Hill in 1783. His daughter Judith bp in 1780 at Tugby also had a mother Mary, though he may have married 2 Marys.

I'm interested to know why he called his second daughter Jane.

Thank you for your help in making me think straight.
Regards
Barbara
