John Casey married Mary O'Neill
« on: Sunday 20 September 15 10:44 BST (UK) »
Hi I am researching my great great grandfathers parents John and Mary Casey.

My great grandfather was Tom Casey born 1845? died 1909 in Gisborne, NZ

He had a sister Nora the eldest child and brothers, their names may have been Jack and Frank.  Tom was the youngest child. John came to NZ to fight in the NZ land wars.  He came with his wife and children.  I know they lived in Auckland.

As an adult Tom had a job buying horses in parts of NZ.  He was based in Moawhango.

Nora is somehow is a direct descendent of Heather Begg, famous opera singer but unsure how.

One of the siblings died on the voyage to Auckland

John Casey was severely wounded in the NZ Land Wars and died not long after.

Mary went on to marry another soldier she had met on the ship.

Mary and this English soldier had three more children, I think girls.  One of those girls was named Ada.

Tom and Ada were very close so Tom named one of his daughters Ada (my great grandmother).

Tipperary is the place where my family came from according to family but there has been no trace of information or records to confirm this so I have started to research my ancestor in other parts of Ireland.

I was interested to find a member in this webpage has posted information that could be connected to my ancestor.

There was a post that could be connected to my ancestors and as I am new I cannot have access to my private messages to connect with that particular member.

There is also a surnames interest index where you can list the surnames you are interested in and perhaps find others with similar interests.

Go to the bottom of any RootsChat page - under Your Tools - Surname Interests - click on that -  Click on Quick Search to see surnames and variations.

Hope this is helpful.
