Hi Aaron,

Had another look at this scenario and I think Deb is right about doing some more digging as to Samuel origins.

From the looks of things the Samuel Wright that was born in Hobart in 1827 is the individual who married Ann Foulan at Richmond in 1856. Note the witness' were a John and Sarah Wright.

Though the age is out this is probably that Samuels death in 1888 -

His father is likely  to be this John dying at Campania in 1884 -

https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD35-1-53p166j2k

I'd say there are two distinct Samuel Wrights, one who lived in the south and the other in the north of VDL.

The obit Deb found mentioned Samuel arriving with his parents "over 50 years ago" So you may be looking for him being born outside of Tasmania.

There's evidence of  a Thomas and a John Wright living at Cressy around the same time as that Samuel Wright was as well. So perhaps they are related in some manner...?

Cheers,

Peter

As you know, Samuel lived around Cressy.  There is this insolvency notice:

INSOLVENT COURT.

John WRIGHT of Cressy died in 1864 aged 67.

On the 20th instant, at his residence, Cressy, Mr. John Wright, in the sixty-seventh year of his age. The funeral will take place at Longford, on Friday, the 23rd instant, at two o'clock. Friends are invited to attend. Adelaide papers please copy.- JOHN WRIGHT, Undertaker.

His wife Alice died in 1867

WRIGHT - On 29th May, at Chudleigh, Mrs. Alice Wright, relict of the late Mr. John Wright, aged 67.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/8846585

John WRIGHT (formerly of Evandale, but late of Cressy) left a Will where his executors are named as William WRIGHT and Richard WARREN.  I believe these are his son and son-in-law.

Richard WARREN married Anne WRIGHT at Evandale in 1848.  She was born c1830 and the witnesses were John WRIGHT and Jane CHESTER.

Jane WRIGHT had married William CHESTER in 1845 in Launceston.  She was born c1826 and the witnesses were her siblings Thomas John WRIGHT and Ann WRIGHT.

Jane CHESTER was also a witness at the marriage of William WRIGHT to widow Elizabeth Sarah REID (nee BRANSGROVE) in 1864 at Launceston.  William died in 1868 and his birth year was c1822.

John WRIGHT'S Will makes reference to his children borrowing money but unfortunately he does not name any of them.

Jane WRIGHT had married William CHESTER in 1845 in Launceston.  She was born c1826 and the witnesses were her siblings Thomas John WRIGHT and Ann WRIGHT.

In June 1845 a Thomas John WRIGHT departed Tasmania for Adelaide.  There are two marriages in SA, the first in 1848 to Mary Ann WATERS (she died of consumption in 1849), and the second in 1850 to Maria HORNSBY.  Thomas died in 1866 aged 45, so born c1822.

What is interesting is that William and Thomas were both publicans and Samuel was very involved with the Wesleyan church, so if they were brothers then that would surely have caused some tension in the family.

Might be drawing a long bow here....from the General arrivals index at TAHO we have -

John Wright arriving per ship "FORTH" departure : London 16 April 1832, NP: Thetford, Norfolk, arrived with wife, 3 boys, 3 girls. Sent out by VDL Co.

Ref: GO1/13 p517, CSO1/591 13412

Good possibility...??

Cheers,

Peter

Yay, I really wanted them to be from Thetford!!   ;D

Richard WARREN and Ann WRIGHT named their daughter Alice Cook WARREN and I thought she might be named for Ann's mother.  There is a marriage and some baptisms which are a good fit:

Might be on the right path here. There were a couple of children baptised to a John and Alice Wright in Thetford that match those found -

Name:
Ann Wright
Gender:
Female
Baptism Date:
4 Sep 1831
Baptism Place:
Saint Cuthbert, Thetford, Norfolk, England
Father:
John Wright
Mother:
Alice
FHL Film Number:
1470862
Reference ID:
item 2 p 54

Name:
Jane Wright
Gender:
Female
Baptism Date:
14 Sep 1825
Baptism Place:
Thetford, Norfolk, England
Father:
John Wright
Mother:
Alice Wright
FHL Film Number:
1517602
Reference ID:
45 355

No sign of a Samuel but I might be using the wrong combinations to search on FamilySearch and Ancestry...
