John Driskell died 1810 Southwark - from Ireland?
« on: Wednesday 23 September 15 16:54 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am seeking info about my Driskell/Driscoll line. I have traced my London family back to John Driskell (1807-54) and wife Ann Elmes (1808-68) who were born and died in the St Olave parish of Southwark. John Driskell's parents were John (d. 1810) and Mary Dicey( 1771-1841); they married in St Olave in 1798. There is no likely London birth record for John and I don't think the Devon Driskells are connected. There is much online discussion from a while back that gives John (1807) Irish ancestry

I am trying to find out if John senior came over from Ireland before his marriage. I wonder if anyone has had any luck tracing his place of birth/parentage, either in England or Ireland. Many thanks for any help anyone can give. Lindyven

Update: I have located a later death record for 1843 along with the 1841 Census that both place him as a pauper in the St George workhouse, though his wife appears to live with her son. This JD was born in Ireland so this could be him, but I don't know anything about him before his marriage.
