Hannah Smith of Yeadon
« on: Friday 25 September 15 15:33 BST (UK) »
She married Walter Sutcliffe in 1949 [Wharfedale 1st ¼ 2d p1487]. Has anyone come across this couple during their research? I am particularly interested in Hannah who could provide the glimmer of light in my 'brick wall.'

If you haven't already done so, a good way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it under "Your Tools" at the bottom of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

With a surname like Smith - you need all the help you can get.  A starter would be to purchase a copy of the 1949 marriage cert to find her fathers name and occupation.  It should also show her age

Was she born in Yeadon - if so - what year?  If not - where was she born?

When and where did she die?  If she died from 1969 onwards her full date of birth should be shown on her death cert

Yes, the marriage certificate seems to be my only option unless someone on this site has already researched them (there are no Smiths in our tree, most common maiden name is Elsey).
I was sent a copy of a handwritten letter sent 'To Marjorie' and signed off 'Nan & Walter' with a Yeadon address. The letter was thought to be over 20 years old and contained memories which confirm that the writer is a relative I didn't know I had.
I went to that address with no success, so consulted the Electoral Register for 1990 at the Central Library in Leeds to find their full names which lead to the wedding info via BMD.

As we all know, it's one thing living in an area and getting married in the area.
Marriage could have been in half a dozen locations which would need the marriage cert to confirm.

If they were both showing on the electoral register in 1990 then any deaths are from 1990 onwards.
