Hi Joan,

I have had a look at my travel diary from 1999 and see we also met Eileen (Thompson) Black who was married to William Thomas Black's brother John Black born 1910. This was the same day I visited Beltra Church. Eileen gave us information about the Thompson family and Mary Crean. (Crean family in Davis line).

Cheers

Linda

Hi Joan,

My original post about the Rathbarron farm was misleading in that the Davis who was in the other half of the duplex farmhouse was Thomas Davis, not the father of James Davis who married Ann Livingston pre 1845. There is probably some connection but I do not know it.

Actually I am not sure of the source which identifies William Davis and Catherine Armstrong as the parents of James Davis. Those are the parents as seen in the Davis Ancestry tree but back in 1999 James parents had not been identified. William Davis of Coolaney was a soldier and alive in 1824 as per Tithes.

Mary Ann Crean b 1885, daughter of Eliza Davis and Daniel Crean, and granddaughter of Ann Livingston, married John Martin Thompson. They were the parents of Eileen Thompson who married John Black.

Cheers

Linda

Thanks for that I must get my head around that. I knew Eileen well as she was my Aunt by marriage, she passed away about 3 or 4 years ago. The David Black who died in 2007 was my only brother.
Do you live i New Zealand?
Regards,
Joan.

I am going to make copies of all this. Could you please let me have your own
ancestry line. The L Peel  genealogist you got information from is a granddaughter of Violet Frances Jackson (Peel) and Oswald Peel) her father was George their eldest son she also has a brother Denis. There are quite a big crowd of Davis ancestors, some emigrated to United States.

Hope this is of some smal lhelp.
So you stayed at Cuiltybar with Arthur (Gordon) Levingstone he is still alive.
His wife has died also a son.
There was a Davis man on other side of village of Coolaney wo was related to Donaghys I am fairly sure, I used to hear my mother talking about lots of different people as a child, a lot of it went over my head but some is still there, cannot remember his first name, he died some shooting incident and a Sproule man had the farm don't know if he was related or he bought it.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
