or there's Amazon if you want to have a look at prices and specifications

They are basically laptops where you can detach the keyboard and use the screen as a tablet, so you get the best of both worlds.

Thankyou dawnsh for the options and groom for the convertible explanation it sounds interesting. I will have to go and see what will be suitable and not cause the same physical problems as a pc. I didn't realise there would be so much choice ! I should have known it wouldn't be easy.

I have had a Nexus 7, a Nexus 7 (2013),  a Hudl 2 and now a Nexus 9. Without doubt I would get the Hudl2 first while you are getting used to it - less than £100. And save for a Nexus 9 - £199. The Hudl 2 is from Tesco and they will replace or give you your money back without a quibble, so any thing go wrong. The Nexus 9 is 4:3 format like iPads and is far better for browsing the internet. It is so good I sold my smartphone and gone back to a £25 basic phone.

Whatever you buy get a case to protect the screen. They cost £60 plus to replace.

BTW..the 9/10 inch case sold by Tesco is too big for the Nexus 9.

A big question is where are you getting your WiFi from?

Ken

Is that a serious question? If you don't have access to WiFi, a tablet may not be of much use as they work using WiFi or mobile broadband - 3G or 4G. You probably won't want to get involved with that as it means not only do you pay more for the tablet, but you also need to buy a data plan that you will have to pay for every month.

Lack of WiFi may limit your choice of laptop as well.

Yes groom it was a serious question, I 'm severely lacking in knowledge about these things. It doesn't seem to be the correct way for me unfortunately, but at least now I know so thankyou very much  for putting me straight.
