RC registers are online  registers.nli.ie
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

That's really early and not alot of records exist from that timeframe, but where did Helen get married  I'll guess that they weren't Roman Catholic.

I agree with Eileen and I also suspect that in Irish records (if there are any) that she will be called Ellen not Helen.

To find such early records (if they do survive) you'll need to know both their religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland, not just the county). If you do locate a marriage for the parents it is likely to just give the date along with names of bride and groom.

Thank you all for the interest , Helen was married in 1838 in old macar think that's the correct spelling it's in Scotland . I found Helens birthday place details on the census her husband was Scottish . Am quite excited to have a Irish ancestor and would love to know more about her . Her mother was betsey Hamilton and her father was James Marshall I'm guessing they were from Ireland but I don't really know that . The church Helen got married in was c of e , but this could be due to her husbands religion again I
Don't know. I did have a look at the parish records thank you for telling me about them very interesting I couldn't see a entry for them but some of the writing is hard to make out hats off to transcribers !! I'm guessing that most people from amagh would have been Catholic is that the case ?
Thanks again

Do you mean Old Machar in Aberdeenshire?

Have you checked to see if Helen's parents also went to Scotland?

Most from Armagh would not have been RC. Heavily settled during the Ulster Plantation by Scots and English, so Church of Ireland and Presbyterian.

Hi, looked at parish registers and this is the only birth I found.

Birth:

Eleanor Marshall
born 19 May 1811
parish: Tyrone Ditches
county: Armagh
rel: Presbyterian
father: James Marshall
mother: -------(not listed)

I could locate no marriage for James & Betsey. You would need more info to identify if indeed this is your Ellen/Helen. Hope this may help, Kim
