Alfred Scarlet b. 1843
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 22:34 BST (UK) »
I have birth cert for an Alfred Scarlet with parents Jane Scarlet and William Jones, a Waterman.  Alfred was born March 1843 in the Pershore Union Workhouse.  Does anyone have any further info?

Cheers,  Sue

What sort of information are you looking for?

There is a prison record for begging

Alfred Scarlet
Birth  abt 1842 Coventry
Age:   50
Event Date:   1 Aug 1892
Prison or Quarter Session:   HMP Wakefield  Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England

As there is no other Alfred Scarlet born about this time, it is likely to be him.

Added: There is an Alfred Scarlet born 1838 Birmingham, so it could be that one who lied about his age!

The Alfred in HMP Wakefield on 1 Aug and also 5 Sep 1892 was a watchmaker, which ties in with the Alfred found in Hull: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=449015.0

There is also an Alfred Scarlet in the 1861 Worldwide Army Index, Service No. 379, a Driver with 12th Brigade R.A.
MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

Thanks for your efforts.  Most of the info I had already and I had the forlorn hope that someone somewhere had an Alfred with parents Wm Jones and Jane Scarlet in their tree!

The Alfred B. 1838 Birmingham went to Australia with his family and disappeared without trace but the ref to the Army records 1861 is one I'll definitely follow up.  It could explain why Alfred does not appear in census refs until 1881.

Again, thanks for your efforts.

Cheers, Sue
