Help please - Albert Weston
« on: Tuesday 06 October 15 11:46 BST (UK) »
Got myself in a bit of a muddle and was wondering if anyone could help

I'm trying to find the parents of Albert Edmund Weston

On his marriage certificate (5 Oct 1869) he is 19 and states his father is Edmund, a farmer (deceased)

On the 1861 census Albert (aged 12) is in Wilder Street, Bristol with Ed, a 48 year old farmer from Barrow, and Mary, aged 33, also from Barrow (listed as married), and Eliza a 10 year old daughter.

On the 1851 census the only corresponding Albert is living with his mother Mary, aged 24 from Barrow, and his father Thomas, a 28 year old labourer from Barrow.

There is an Edmund is on the 1851 census, a 34 year old UNMARRIED farmer from Barrow (living in Filton), this Edmund then dies in 1862, still a bachelor in Bristol

There is NO record of any marriage for Edmund.
Thomas Weston marries Mary Stevens in Bristol - haven't found a death for him yet.

Also haven't found a birth record for Albert to purchase as yet - or baptisms for him or Eliza

How reliable is the father on the birth certificate?

I'm leaning towards the idea that Edmund and Thomas are related and Thomas died so Mary lived with her brother in law - and there is an error on the census that they were married to each other, but then why did Albert give Edmunds name on his marriage certificate

Is anyone else having problems with this regarding the 1851 Census?

I first found it on Ancestry but decided to look at the original census page as a Mary White bc.1822 is shown to be a daughter which didn't make sense.   When I clicked to view the original census page the one that comes up does not show them (nor pages either side).   When you look for the reference details it has piece no.1949, page 2 but there is no folio number??   I've looked on 3 other sites and can't find this family listed, nor indeed any of the people said to be on the same page.   All very strange.   I have duly reported this to Ancestry.

The Mary shown on the query 1851 census entry on Ancestry is shown born Cheddar, not Barrow, another reason why I wanted to look at original page.

Why have Ancestry got a listing for 4 people that are not on 3 other sites at all?

Cant help with Ancestry problem but I can view the page OK elsewhere and Mary White is marked as a separate household but within the same property (No. 4 Philadelphia Street) & was born Cheddar.

It definitely says Thomas Weston Head Married 28 Labourer b Somerset, Barrow, with Mary 24 as his wife & a ditto for place of birth. Albert, son, aged 2 born Bristol.

Including Mary White there are 10 other people in the property, none obviously related to The Weston family.

The folio is blurred but I think its 164

I am getting parts of two images overlapping each other like a mosiac.  Probably just a temporary glitch.

I'm having the same problem as Annette and can't find this census entry on Ancestry or Findmypast. I've just looked at the image for 4 Philadelphia Street using the place search on FindMyPast and they are not listed there.

There is a baptism for Shadrack Weston at Barrow Gurney on 21 May 1782, father Edward, mother Elizabeth.
Could he be Thomas's father and Pharoah's half brother?

or could Eleanor and Elizabeth be the same person and they are full brothers.
