Please can anyone shed any light on the marriage of John Cross to Lucy Unknown.

Lucy was born 1781 Cowley,Oxford,England
her husband John Cross I have no information on as he died prior to the 1841 census.

So a marriage around 1799/ 1800 ?

They had 5 Children the first I can see is  ( May well be more)

Elizabeth Cross born 1800 Baptised at Saint James,Cowley,Oxford,England
Thomas Cross 1803  Baptised at Saint James,Cowley,Oxford,England
William Cross 1805  Baptised at Saint James,Cowley,Oxford,England
George Cross 1809 Baptised at Saint James,Cowley,Oxford,England
Henry Cross 1817 Baptised at Saint James,Cowley,Oxford,England

On the 28 Oct 1799 at St Marys Church, Iffley, Oxford the following marriage took place after Banns.

John CROSS  and Lucy WEBB botp  The witnesses were Thomas PENDRY and William HAM

I will see if their children were baptised there next

Just re read your post so do not need to to check baptisms - but I did anyway as confirmation and there are NO children baptised to that couple at that church

I see this burial of a John Cross aged 63 at St James, Cowley on 20 Aug 1832 which looks like yours - born c1769 married aged 30 kind of fits quite well?

Mmm maybe that is her but Mapledurham is a long way from Iffley. Oxfordshire is my county born and bred and thats a long way from one to the other.

Why not in the first instance and to save so much time ask Oxfordshire Family History Society to see if they have her on their baptism index for the county?

Having just googled Mapledurham I agree with you. I will look in to it further, and see what comes to light.
