Hmmm. Actually Susan C(atherine) Renshaw is still with parents in Otford in 1881, so definitely a separate person from the Susan Renshaw who is in service in London (St Giles) at that time, showing as b abt 1864 London.

So possibly the London one is her mother?

If she is at home with parents in 1881, why can't she be the one in London in 1891? Or was the 1881 a typo?

Sorry, didn't explain v well.  The c1864 London-born Susan was in service in London in 1881 and from the originating post it appears Ssherratt had found her then.

But I could not find her in any other record. So wondered if her details were inaccurate and she was in fact the same person as the Kent-born one who turns up in service in London in 1891 (albeit not a great age match, born 1868).

However the Kent girl was with her parents in Kent in 1881. So they are separate people after all.

Thank you both. Her mother married a Robert Mathews.
Susan then used that name, we believe.
The 1901 census shows Susan (mo) and Robert with a son, Robert in Barnes but Susan Harriet isn't there.

Heywood I think that is certainly her in 1911 census. 1901 seems the difficult time.

Does this mean that you have her in 1891?

I cannot see the marriage of Susan to Robert Mat(t)hews - please can you point us to it? That will be a crucial record in finding out who Susan's father was.

In 1901 Barnes (under the Matthews spelling) Robert is 61 and Susan is 32, both born London. They have a whole array of children with them, mostly Matthews children but also two nieces, Maud Rozier 10 b Fulham and Lucy Rozier 7 b Fulham.

Going back to 1891 for Maud Rozier she is in Fulham (but born Bloomsbury) with parents Charles and Lucy - and also two older brothers Alfred 4 and William 2.

Have any of the Mat(t)hews been found in 1891?

For anyone like me who has been searching - here is mum, I think. She is transcribed as Susan Restall.

1891 624/7/8

Maude Harriett Rozier born 4 Aug 1890 was baptised 14 Sep 1890 at St George the Martyr, Queen Square, Bloomsbury.  Parents were Charles (pianoforte smith) and Lucy, of 33 New North St.

Charles' occupation here is very similar to that of Robert Matthews in 1901.

Marriage: Charles Reuben Rozier/ Lucy Louisa Clough on same page, Jun qtr 1885 Pancras.
