I can't find a marriage! I was hoping someone with better experience might have a brainwave!
We've assumed a marriage as the name is used but ...
The 9101 info with the Rozier children is likely and ties in family connection.

This is a tricky one!

How have you been able to identify Susan Matthews, "wife" of Robert, as the Susan Renshaw who gave birth to Susan Harriet?

Is there anything helpful on Susan Harriet's 1915 marriage certificate re father's details, witnesses etc?

The Rozier link mostly. Oral history told us about Harriet Rozier being the godmother of my grandmother.
I have a ring of Susan Harriet's that was given with a note saying Susan Harriet Everett nee Mathews nee Renshaw

Yes I see.  So would that be Maud(e) Harriet(t) Rozier b. 1890 who Susan Harriet (b. 1888) chose as godmother to her child? The Rozier link is an important one, then.

I must say it is hard at present to see how the Rozier girls were "nieces" of Robert/Susan Matthews, as they were enumerated in 1901.  Their mother was Lucy Louisa Clough, born 24 June 1861 and baptised (as Louisa) 1863 Shoreditch, daughter of Robert Clough (a waiter) and Eliza.  She died (as Lucy Rozier) aged 37 in Fulham in 1899.

Have you established how the connection came about between the families?

I can't see a birth for Susan Renshaw snr.
Do you have a birth certificate for a child of hers and Robert Mathews name to verify her maiden name?

Yes I wonder whether the two of them had children together or whether all the Matthews children were from one or more previous relationships?

The Matthews children in 1891 were:

Esther 21 b Paddington
George 18 b London City
Rebecca 9 b Camden Town
Margaret 6 b Hammersmith
Rose 3 b Barnes

and in 1901 (rearranged in age order):

Rose 13 b Barnes
Nelly 12 b London
William 11 b Whitechapel
Alfred 9 b Barnes
Robert 7 b Barnes

1872 (28 May): Birth of George Roland Matthews (baptised 22 Jul 1877, Camden Town)
1877 (02 Jul): Birth of Thomas Arthur Matthews (baptised 22 July 1877, Camden Town)
1882 (01 Jan): Baptism of Martha Rebecca Ellen Matthews (born 21 Nov 1881), All Saints St Pancras.
1884 (16 Oct): Baptism of Margaret Ellen Matthews, St John the Evangelist, Hammersmith.

Rose was baptised much later on:

St Michael & All Angels, Barnes, 23 March 1907

Rose Eleanor Matthews, born 9 January 1888

Parents: Robert James (music-smith, deceased) and Susan* Mary.

Abode: 78 Rochester Row, Westminster.

* It appears in the register that the mother's name was originally written as Susan, but overwritten with Mary.
