Kate Louise Cleife

I cannot find Kate Louise Cleife on the 1871 or the 1881 census, she was born Oct 1861 in Portsmouth. I have her in the 1891,1901 and the 1911 census with her married name. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea, I have tried all different spellings for her name. Thanks Janet

I see she married William Henry Faithwaite in Liverpool, 1 Sep 1882, naming her father as Jacob Cleife, gentleman.  Have you found Jacob anywhere?

Hmmm.

I see that Jacob and Matilda Cleife appear in 1871 and 1881 with several children, but not a Kate Louise:

Kate's address at marriage was 41 Aubrey St, Everton.  Unfortunately that address was unoccupied in the 1881 census. 

At 45 Aubrey St, Everton was a Mary J Southworth, 20 b Accrington - possibly the Mary Jane Southworth who was a witness to Kate's marriage.

I have found Jacob Cleife, thanks, and his wife Matilda Ponsford. I cannot find Kate in anyone's family tree either, strange. I have her birth certificate. Who is this Mary Jane Southworth? Thanks Janet

Ok so does the birth certificate confirm that Jacob and Matilda were her parents?

Mary Jane Southworth was, as I mentioned, a witness to Kate's wedding.  She seems to have lived close to Kate's reported address at the time.  She may have been just a friend.

Yes Jacob and Matilda were named on Kate's birth certificate, living at 18 Chance Street Portsea. I wonder if she was working in Liverpool in 1881. I must delve even deeper. Janet

I see her birth registration has her surname with two F's.
And her middle name was Louisa (not Louise)

Yes Carol I did see that Kate was Kate Louisa Cleiffe on her birth certificate. I have tried all different variations of her name, even her mothers maiden name. I don't think that I will find out where she was, from 1861 until 1891 when she was in Liverpool. Thanks Janet.
