Just looked up Johanna Christiansdotter's Inventory of Estate/Will from 1888 and it is also stated that Olof was abroad. Olof was actually written down as Olle.

Hi again

Because there are no records before 1860 from the original Parish Books the only place to find some would be here:

There are a few hits on FamilySearch using Alexander Wingard and Johanna Christiansdotter
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gaj/

and on Ancestry there are a couple of hits too and a tree for an Olof August Alexandersson. I cannot check them unfortunately as I haven't renewed my subscription yet. But you might even be able to find Oliver's birth record.

Hi Ian,
I have a month's access to ancestry at the moment. The tree is for a different Olof Alexandersson unfortunately, born in 1884. Sorry.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Have you seen the death of British National Oliver Anderson in 1891 on FindMyPast?

He must surely have been a British Subject especially I think if he got his Seaman Certificate to be a captain in the Merchant Navy.

There are 2 records on Ancestry "All UK, Naturalisation Certificates and Declarations, 1870-1912" for an Olaf Anderson and an Oliver Anderson.
Worth a look perhaps.

Thanks for all the information. I hadn't spotted the Naturalisation record on Ancestry i will check it out.

One other thing puzzles me why would all the family be on the 1880 census?Surely a few of the family would be married. Oliver was between marriages at the time! !!

Yes you are right.
If we could have read the original books it would have looked a little different. The minister would have crossed off the children when they left home. In this case the names were kept for statistical reasons I suppose.
