Marriage of Thomas Lewis to Eliza
« on: Tuesday 13 October 15 13:02 BST (UK) »
Hi I wonder if anyone could look up a marriage for me please:

Thomas Lewis born @ 1847 married Eliza ? born @ 1849.  In 1881 the family say they were born in Leominster however in 1861 it says Holmer.  ( I can't find them in 1871).

On Ancestry there are quite a few trees that have these people in but it says Eliza's surname as Lewis and I can't find that.
Any help/advice gratefully received

I see that she's Elizabeth rather than Eliza in 1901 and later.

Have you looked at the 1911 census to see how long they claim to have been married?

If the marriage was said to be late on in their relationship perhaps have a look at this one:

Dec qtr 1892 Hereford

Thomas Lewis
Elizabeth Annie Jones

on the same page, 6a 1027.
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

Obviously a child's birth certificate is the best source for finding out her maiden name.

E.g. Florence Lewis, Dec qtr 1880 Hereford 6a 469.

I can see two families in the 1881, both Thomas Lewis, both with daughters Florence, one say born Leominster, the other born Hereford, neither seem connected with Holmer, but there is a marriage of Thomas Lewis to Eliza Ann Jones in holmer in the 1840,s, a possible father of your Thomas?.

I can see a Florence Lewis in the 1901 aged21 living with her grandparents named Preece, there is a Thomas Lewis marriage to an Eliza Preece 1866 I think
