Hi,

According to the source information and the entry you found on Anc..y; it refers to a marriage between Edward Hewlett, p, of South Leigh, w, & Elizabeth Ayris 13-10-1767;
Volume 4. Marriages and Banns Register [marked No. 5.] (Marriage)
Collection:   Oxford: - Register of Marriages, 1559-1837

William Carpenter is supposedly bapt. Nov 1741 South Leigh and Elizabeth Ayris bapt. 3-2-in Cogges but no year is listed.

It appears as if the entries have been corrupted between Hewlett, & Carpenter something that often happens on these public trees  I've noticed.

Hi again

William Carpenter married Elizabeth Aris on 24 April 1764 at Cogges. He was a sojourner which fits with his baptism being a bit elusive.
I'll be back in a minute with any other info from the parish records which whilst not 100% accurate are more trustworthy than some of the info found on web sites.

Ok
The marriage is in St Marys Church, Cogges, Witney Parish Record's. It was after banns both signed with a x. She was otp and he was a sojourner. the witnesses were John Sparrow (he witnessed loads so was probably a verger) and Mary Sparrow.

There is a baptism for an Elizabeth Aris at the same church dated 22 July 1750. It was not illegal nor unusual for marriage at circa 14 - assuming she was baptised at or around birth. But she may have been entered in to the church as a young child and often that happened even when someone was an adult so don't be tempted to dismiss this out of hand.

The parents entered on  that day for Elizabeth are: William MOULDER and Elizabeth?

Later on 29 March 1752 there was a baptism of Hannah AYRIS to John MOULDER and Elizabeth?

So it begins to appear as if William and John Moulder may be the same man or brothers  = cozy !! and Elizabeth may have been ARIS or AYRIS and not married to the girls father / s.

More puzzle for you!!
