McDonald/Mckay 1835 Ferintosh or Knockbain
« on: Sunday 18 October 15 21:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for any information or clues of where to look for further info on my great-great-great grandfather William Mcdonald. He was born in 1835 but I, and other family researchers, have been unable to find any record of his birth as he was illegitimate. Census info records him as being born in either Ferintosh or Knockbain, both in Ross & Cromarty. He appears to have moved to Aberdeenshire in the 1850's but we cannot find anything on him prior to this.  His wedding certificate states that his parents, who were both deceased by 1860 were Alexander McDonald and Ann Mckay. However his death certificate records his father as being Alexander Mckay. We can follow his trail after the 1850's but would love any info anyone might have or any suggestions of how to look into this more.
Just for info he married a Helen Buchan and died in 1906 still in Aberdeenshire.
Fingers crossed and thanks in advance!

Hi,
I didn't realise there were individual county boards so I re-posted it there, hoping there was more chance of someone having information. I'm not sure how I remove this one now.
