re grandfather & grandmother
« on: Monday 19 October 15 12:32 BST (UK) »
I am new on here but I would like to see if I can find some details of John Mason b 1819 & Mary Moran b 1828 both were shipped from Dublin to Australia as convicts about 1848. The two ships involved from all I can see are Layton & Lord Auckland. I just hope I can find something as I have only just found out that they are my great grand parents. It is so amazing to actually find them, so please can anyone help me.
cheers

Welcome to RootsChat.
Have you found their marriage in Australia?
This could have lots of useful information which will help your search in Ireland, like a parents name and where in Ireland they were from etc.

Hi Patsy,

Tas Archives' website has all their records digitised - Permission to Marry, Marriage, all Convict records (John's indent names his siblings, Mary's names her parents and siblings), as well as the births of their children.

https://linctas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names/

You will see that John was tried at the Old Bailey and these court records are also online:
