Alexander Agar
« on: Wednesday 21 October 15 19:03 BST (UK) »
Have been unable to trace this great grandfather before his arrival in New York in 1847. Born 1830-1831 in UK perhaps Ireland.  Was a stationer/book publisher. Any information on his birth/location, etc would be appreciated.

Welcome!

There is an Alexander Agar born Ireland with wife Ann children Thomas Mary Louisa Amelia Eliza living in Southwark South London in 1841, occupation unreadable.  Doesn't appear in 1851.

Age given as 30 which, given rounding off, would be right.  Does this sound like yours?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Best to start with available U.S. records and work back in a logical manner.

Have you located a marriage or death certificate for Alexander? Have you found him in any U.S. census records? (should list country of birth)

Lots of Irish Catholic Parish registers are now online but without other identifying details (birthplace, parents, etc.) there's no way of knowning if any records found do, or don't belong to the correct Alexander Agar.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Whoops - read the birth date in the first post as 1813!!  Memo to self - read the question!  Good job others do.

Could this be Alexander with his siblings in the 1855 New York state census?
