Matilda Watton/Shields

Hello Everyone!
I have been trying very hard to find information about my Great Grandmother Matilda Watton of County Derry in Northern Ireland.  The only information I have been able to find is her Marriage Certificate when she married John Shields of County Antrim on November 23 1877 at Ballyrashane Presbyterian Church.  It states that that they were both living in Ballynagg Co. Derry at the time of their marriage and her Fathers name was John Watton (sometimes spelled Watten) I am not sure but her Mother may be Jane Simpson of Coleraine.  John and Matilda had four children one being William Shields (1878-1958) my Grandfather.  John and Matilda immigrated to Canada in 1907 and Matilda died in Vineland Ontario Canada on January 27 1915.  It would be so nice to know a bit about her life before marriage if she had siblings and who her Mother actually was.  I am not sure just where to look for this information being that I am not sure of her Mothers name and John Shields is a very common name in Northern Ireland.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

You haven't given the year that Matilda was born but from 1907 passenger record
can see both are aged 48 so born c 1856

According to her death 1915 Canada her age 59 (1856) and her mother is named as
Jane SIMPSON, father John

Thank you for the welcome and information you sent.  This clarifys that Jane Simpson was indeed Matildas Mother.  Sure would be nice to know a little about Jane Simpson but it is hard to find information when the name is fairly common and the time frame goes so far back when records weren't available.

The witnesses to John & Matilda's marriage in 1877 - were they related to the couple?

What was her father John's occupation?

I unfortunately have not been able to find out anything about Matildas Father John Watton.  On the marriage certificate it lists John as being a Weaver with a question mark after it and the Witnesses were James A. Parkes and Ann Watten.  Ann may be a relative, sister or cousin? Unfortunately I have not been able to connect the two.  It is frustrating indeed!
