Vicar/Curate of Llanfihangel Rhydithon in 1871

I am trying to trace back the Reverend Richard Pughe from his death in 1855, where was he living in 1841 and 1851, Llanfihangel Rhydithon or Llandewi in Radnorshire ? or Lampeter.  He seems to have come from Lampeter but did he study for the Church there ?

Lampeter wasn't founded until 1822, admitting its first students in 1827 - was this too late for Richard Pughe?
There are a couple of Richard Pughe records in Alumni Oxonienses who might be your man: if you know his age at death a cross-reference would be possible. Most likely one is Richard, son of Richard, clerk [= clerk in holy orders, so a family in the Church?], of Llanegryn, co Merioneth; matriculated March 1812, aged 19; Jesus College.

CCEDB has him appointed as Rector of Llanfihangel-yn-Gwynfa, with a BA degree, on 23rd July 1823. It says the Patron was the Bishop of St Asaph. The vacancy occurred because of the death of the previous Rector, James Hamer.

it looks from the census that he was born in 1810, and he appears to have come from the Machynlleth area, where the name Pughe with the e is still around today. He married Mary Evans there in 1837, and in 1841 when he was appointed perpetual curate of Llanfihangel Rhydithon and Llandewi Ystradenny in Radnorshire it says he was coming from St David's Lampeter.

Looks like I've found a different Rev Richard Pughe - why couldn't they all invest in unique middle names to help us?

It does and the 'e' can be misleading.  But the announcement of his appointment said from St Davids  Lampeter, so that must be the college or its chapel after following you comments. Wher was he in 1841 I wonder?

Hereford Journal 5th December 1855
Clergyman Suspended – In the Arches Court, on Thursday, the Rev Richard Pughe, incumbent of the perpetual curacy of Llanvihangel Rhydithon, Radnor, was suspended for five years from office and benefice, for drunkenness, fighting and profane swearing.

He died on 26th December 1855.
His wife had died on 1st January 1855.

Yes, he was a naughty boy it seems, I wondered where he was in 1841, and where his 3 children were after the deaths of their parents.
