FHL Film
« on: Wednesday 28 October 15 23:55 GMT (UK) »
Could someone tell me how to look at a cert on FHL Film, i have seen a couple of birth certificate's i don't know how to go about getting them, and where you can look at them.
Why are they on film instead of paper?
Thank you

Hi

What country are you referring to? And what time period?

I am assuming the FHL is the Family History Library in Salt Lake City? If so it was filmed somewhere. If you let us know exactly who you are looking for on the film some may be able to help you.

Hello, i am in London and the year of this birth certificate is 1819 Southwark, it has the Father's name and just Mary for the mother, i thought seeing the FHL Film there might be more to see on it.

Hi

It would be a christening not a birth certificate as Civil Registration did not start until 1837. Unfortunately most English Parish Registers did not include mothers maiden name but if you post information on who you are looking at it might be possible to check the church register another way to confirm that there is no mothers surname.

Baptised 25 December 1819
St. Saviour, Southwark

William John JOYCE
Born: 27 August 1817
Parents: John and Mary
Residence: Pleasant Row
Father's Occupation: Smith

Isabella JOYCE
Born: 8 August 1819

Your local library will probably have free access to subscription websites which host the digital images taken from the original registers at the London Metropolitan Archives.
