I looking for a birth record for Emma Ponsford born on the 26th Oct 1844 (based on baptism record), can anyone help?

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874/75 so many births went unregistered prior to then

Her 3 older siblings' births appear to have been registered - however, nothing for Emma and, if it's any consolation, they didn't register their son Samuel born 7/4/1850 either.

Annette - Samuel was registered but as "Son" or "Unknown" Ponsford I can't remember which, but I now have his certificate.

Thank you both for your input...it might be a long search, by the looks of it!
