Boston Terrace, Hammersmith c1881
« on: Thursday 29 October 15 20:24 GMT (UK) »
Boston Terrace in 1881 appears to be located between the Andover Arms and Duke of York public houses. I have looked on the old maps website and found a York Road (now Perres Road?) and Andover Road in Hammersmith.

I've found the Andover Arms on a modern map and a building, now residential, which states was the Duke of York. I'm not sure how Boston Terrace would have fitted in to this space. Anyone with local knowledge able to shed light on this area?

Many thanks!

Although a very old post, i too am looking for Boston Terrace in Hammersmith. Can't find it anywhere.

It could be where my great grand father lived.

Here is that area on an 1860's map:

And an 1890's map:

Possibly the row of houses on Church Road?

That's the area I've been checking. Various newspaper reports refer to "Boston Terrace, Bradmore" or "Boston Terrace, Bradmore Park"

Perhaps that first row of houses on Bradmore Park Road, running down to Church Road, visible on the 1890's map?

I checked "London Street Name Changes" which states that (pre 1912) Bradmore Park Rd was known as Rothsay Terrace? No mention of Boston Terrace.

Booth's poverty maps and notebooks of London (1886 and later) do not mention Boston Terrace.

Old maps of London "MAPCO" do not show a Boston Terrace.

Great find! It's difficult to move around on the map as it keeps jumping back to its first position.
Haven't seen Boston Terrace though

Haven't seen Boston Terrace though

If you look at the maps that Shaun has linked to, in the first one you will running south near the intersection of Church and Bradmore Park Road, a road called Lamington Street. On Lamington Street you will see a row of houses called "Bradmore Terrace".

I could be that Boston Terrace would have been a similarly named terrace near the intersection of Church and Bradmore Park Roads.

Sadly there has been some demolition and rebuilding on both sides of that part of Bradmore Park Road.

You can see a neighbourhood centre on one side with the rather lovely terrace beside it starting at number 9. Maybe your Boston Tce was on this spot? There used to be a pub on the corner. The other side of the road has some shops with accommodation above, then a vacant area before more terraces. A possibility here too for Boston Tce? I had a look for names on other houses in the street but could not spot any.
