Bigg Burial in Weston Look-Up Request
« on: Friday 30 October 15 08:19 GMT (UK) »
Morning all,

If any kind person is going to HALS in the near future, would you please be able to look up the burial of Joseph Bigg on 26th November 1790?  I would just like to know if there are any further details given on this burial (ie infant / young man / married man / farmer) as other entries in early 1790 were quite descriptive and I am trying to double check that who I believe to probably be 'my' Joseph Bigg born in 1786 didn't die young!

I have a Find My Past subscription and the Weston records there are online, however annoyingly the burials cut out in late October 1790, and then there is a big gap until 1795.  I have emailed them about this, but am not holding out my hopes so would really appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Becky

Hi Becky

HALS Names is at
https://www.hertsdirect.org/ufs/ufsmain?ebz=2_1446195083682&ebd=0
and it's free.

:-)

There seems to be only a single entry for a "Joseph Bigg" (up to 1800 that is)

Hi

It may be worth searching the HALS Archive Catalog

Under reference S/VAR/150 11 Sep 1806
"Recognizance of John Harvey, victualler, and Joseph Bigg, surety, relating to the Crooked Billet, Hatfield"

Hi Becky,
This is your lucky morning - we researched this family about 10 years ago.  The Joseph Bigg that was buried on 26th November 1790 was a Labourer living in Weston.  His wife was Elizabeth (nee Everett) their marriage was on 4th Dec. 1750 in Weston, Herts. Their children were William (bap. 5th May 1751) -  Mary (bapt. 3rd June 1754) - Joseph (bapt. 17th June 1758) - George (bapt. 26th June 1763) - Stephen (bapt. 10th July 1768) - Sarah (bapt. 14th June 1772).  Joseph Bigg was the first generation to settle in Weston as he was Baptised  on 4th June 1732 at Hitchin, Herts.
I think the baby Joseph you are referring to is possibly the grandson of this Joseph, born to William Bigg ( eldest son of Joseph senior) & Ann  Watson his wife. We have obtained this information from seeing a film of the parish registers for Weston.  Hope this helps

Hello!  Thanks for the reply, you might not remember but we have actually corresponded before around 2009 about this family, I was planning on getting back in touch with you in the near future so this is quite a nice coincidence!  Will PM you :)

I have sent you a PM - not sure if I've sent it properly (grey cells not working tonight) let me know if you don't receive it.  Best wishes
