Albert Fred Sharpe
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 18:23 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for info about my uncle Albert Fred Sharpe born on the Isle of Wight 1891 and who was a horse racing jokey in France around 1915 approx.  I have found a consular marriage of an Albert F Sharpe to a Gertrude E Prout in Paris, France between 1911-1915 and wonder if this could be him and would be grateful for any information on him.

Hi,

You can check online http://archives.paris.fr/s/7/tables-decennales/? if they indeed got married in Paris.

On Geneaservice, there is no entry for a marriage in Paris between 1903 and 1912. There are two entries for 1913-1922, both of them for a Georg SHARP.

As he was a jockey, you should try places around Paris, like Chantilly, before the beginning of WWI (My great-grandfather owned race horses before the war and he sold them to the army when the war started).

The 1911 census

Plenty of british folks in Chantilly

like Walter SPENCER, a native of Nottingham, dentiste pour chevaux (horse dentist) frame 9
Edward LEES, also of Nottingham, reporter pour journaux (newspaper reporter) frame 9
George WILLAMS, a native of Cambridge, entraineur (coach) frame 18
William BROCKWELL, a native of  Carshalton, lad (stable boy, in charge of a horse) frame 26
Walter PRICE, London, lad (stable boy) frame 26
Archibald TOMSON, Plymouth, pasteur (anglican pastor) frame 33
Charles PRATT, Thorton, maréchal (blacksmith) frame 45

There is an Albert SHARPE born in 1891, a native of Newport, English, "lad" (frame 90). His boss is Mister LYNHAM
