Help Please
« on: Monday 02 November 15 11:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm new to this and have a question about tracing my great-grandfather. According to my mum, my granddad never knew his father. His mum (now gone) never gave him any details. I have a copy of his birth certificate and no father is listed on it. Is it hopeless or does any one have any suggestions of places to look?

Any help would be much appreciated

Hello and welcome to Rootschat  ;D

Can you give us more details? his name and date of birth? Was he born prior to 1911 - have you tried looking for him on any of the censuses?

Is there a father mentioned on his marriage certificate? (although some people "invented" a name!)

Otherwise, try searching for a baptism.
Often church officials were less reticent about naming a putative father! ;D

Thank you, I'll look into that.
