Susan Edwards
« on: Monday 02 November 15 23:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I wonder if anyone is researching my GGG grandmother. Her name is Susan Edwards she was born in 1800 and she was transported to Tasmania in 1841 with her 2 children John b.1834 and Mary Annie Edwards b.1836,Susan was a widow, I know her crime when she was sent, the ship, when she died, but I don't know her birth name.  I have been searching all the records that I know of, looking for a marriage, but I am lost. Her indent show she was from Beddington in Surrey and was tried at Portsmouth. Yemoot.

If you can find what church the children were baptised, and you might find her husbands burial, and possibly whittle it down from there,

I have tried all that. I have looked for births of both children and the timeline is so small you would think it easy but there are so many Johns and Mary Ann's. I have been trying to find a death of a Male Edwards from Mary's birth till Susan's sentence, There are poss but I can't find out for sure.  I had a poss Barker or Whitmore as Susan's name but that came to an end. Thanks for your interest.  I am in OZ in Victoria actually and what a beautiful day for the Cup.  Yemoot

The Victorian records are just great, tell us everything, that is if the person giving the information knows the details, Susan died in Tasmania on 29 March 1854,it is just an entry.  She complicated matters as she applied for permission to marry Walter Lindsay in 1844 but no marriage was ever found, but she changed her name to Lindsay, and that of her children also.
