There was another Mathews family in the High Street at the same time as yours and he was a Butcher.

The bankruptcy fits nicely with William reverting to a Glazier in 1834 after a few years as a Grocer.

Again, many thanks to CaroleW and NDRFT for the information provided. 
I have had a look at the advice on one of the other posts about bankruptcy, and will follow that up separately.

I note that in the 1841 census Mary was living with Hannah Harris, (probably a relative). I feel this  reinforces the information that her mother was nee Mary Harris.

I have managed to add a lot of information to my tree, and am very grateful.
