Hi Mike

My Rushtons are from Cauldon which is just up the road from Mayfield so there could be a link somewhere.

Hi Mike

No but I do have a Charles born 1822 who I have not been able to trace further.  Could there be a connection?

Tricky one this. Because of the birth year mine only appears on censuses after he is married so there are no parents or siblings that i know of. Also he has moved to Salford/Manchester.

Do you have any parents/siblings for  your Charles?

Hi Mike

David Rushton and Ann Hodskinson had the following child:

She was christened in St Mary and St Lawrence, Cauldon, Staffordshire, 24 September 1820.

Charles Rushton was born in New Houses, Cotton, Staffordshire before 10 November 1822.  He was christened in St Peters, Alton, Staffordshire, 10 November 1822.

William Rushton was born in Newhouses, Cauldon Lowe, Staffordshire before 03 July 1825.  William died 26 April 1852 in Upper Cotton, Staffordshire, at 26 years of age.  Informant: Father at Upper Cotton.  Present at death.  Pneumonia 96days) His body was interred 28 April 1852 in St Peter's, Alton, Staffordshire, Alton churchyard.
He was christened in Newhouses, Cauldon Lowe, Staffordshire, 03 July 1825.  William's occupation: Mine Labourer in Cauldon Lowe, Staffordshire, 1851 -1852.

Does this help?

Roger,

Thanks it does help. These are a different family to mine. My Charles' father was also Charles. There may be a sideways connection that I don't know about yet. Just have to keep plugging away right?

Thanks again,
Mike

Hi
I've just joined rootschat, so only just seen your message.  I have RUSHTONs in Swinscoe, Ellastone and Ashbourne in the 1800s.
Not sure if there's a link, as I haven't got any Charles Rushtons in my tree as yet.

There was RUSHTONS COTTAGE in the village of Calton which was pulled down c.1930.   An account of the cottage and the Rushton family can be found in the book "Calton is my dwelling place" by David Swinscoe
