First Serious Attempt an Irish immigrant

This is my first real attempt to track down an Irish immigrant, so I would really appreciate some advice as to where I should start. Dates are a bit vague but can be narrrowed down to about 17 years, between 1911 and 1928.

We can't really give any advice without more details but since you've posted on U.S. board does that mean you are trying to track someone who left Ireland and went to America between 1911 and 1928?

Thanks for the info, I found him on the Passenger List.
Patrick Hagan (originally O'Hagan).  Dep. Queenstown 10/11/14 on the Orduna, bound for New York. Listed as single, he had a wife and child in Carrigallen, Leitrim.

Not being familiar with US sites I had a bit of a look around and found a possible entry: 1940 Census Massachusetts, Ward 2, Somerville, Somerville City, Middlesex.

Just an FYI - it helps to write out the month, because 10/11/14 is October 11, 1914 in my part of the world.

The passenger list says his last residence and place of birth was Rooskey, and his mother was Mrs. Annie Hagan, Moher, Rooskey, Co. Roscommon.  Is that definitely your guy?

On the second page of the passenger list, it says he was going to join his sister Mary Hagan, 311 West 15th Street, New York.

If you have a date of birth for him, that might make him easier to find.

Other details are age 21, born Booskey [sp?], mother Mrs. Annie Hagan of Moher, Rooskey, Co. Roscommon

Based on the comment about wife & child in Carrigallen I thought this looked more likely to be the Hagan family in 1901- and Patrick's age 20 there, with parents James & Catherine-

Hello everyone, been away for quite a while, life gets in the way sometimes!

So, back to dear old Patrick Joseph O'Hagan! Born 1880/81? Married to Anna Maria (nee Reilly). I have the 1901 and 1911 Census for him. He left for the States when his son James Joseph (my husband's father) was very young and was never seen again. James Joseph received a fob watch from Patrick with the inscription "To J.J.  from Daddy 1928". My FIL knew nothing about him.

The entry on the Passenger List for 10th Nov. 1914 is puzzling. The Patrick Hagan listed is "with" Eugene Reilly, John Reilly and Edward Minna, all from Carrigallen, which is a small place today, back then would have been even smaller, even counting the surrounding townlands. I think they might have been relatives.
