So this means that Jacob is actually Thomas' nephew, not brother. Thomas' brother Daniel Colin is listed as the father. Very confused?

I think possibly just an error made with the entry of Jacob's deceased father's name
as his brother Daniel Colin witnessed his marriage

On Jacob's baptism his father's is just Colin McDonald

Ok thanks! Wouldn't really make sense for him to be a dad at 8 years old :-/

Not sure where Ladyhawk found her baptisms, but there is a little bit more information from the transcriptions by Doncaster FHS (on FindMyPast).  Church is St George, Doncaster.

Mary - born 18 March 1869

Have been trying to find Rose Elizabeth Swift born c 1877 on earlier censuses but have had no luck  ???

Not sure if you have details of Thomas & Rose Mc/MacDonald on 1901 census

RG13; Piece: 525; Folio: 165; Page: 17
Same census as his widowed mother Jane

His surname transcribed as DONALD (Anc*y)
62 Cornbury Rd
Thomas Head 27 Bermondsey London Leather Currier
Rose E 24 Kent Lamberhurst  ?(1911 Ticehurst, Sussex,  )
Kenneth 5 Deptford London
Rose E 6   ‘’’
Mabel 3     ‘’

You already have Mabel’s bapt.

17 Sep 1895 St Katharine Rotherhithe
Kenneth Mc Donald
Parents Thomas occ currier & Rose abode 62 Cornbury Rd

Birth entry form FreeBMD
Kenneth McDonald  Dec 1895 Greenwich 1d 952

I couldn’t find a baptism for their daughter Rose E Mc/MacDonald 1894

Not sure about this baptism entry as Thomas’ occupation different they are living on same Road
as 1901 census but different No.  ???

Possible they had Rose before their marriage in 1895 or she's Rose's daughter

What does anyone else think?

9 Oct 1894 St Katharine Rotherhithe
Rose Elizabeth SWIFT
Parents Thomas occ Labourer & Rose abode 27 Cornbury Road
(checked NO 27 on 1901 census and the Pritchett/Smith family are living there)

This looks to be her birth entry

Births Dec 1894 Greenwich 1d 1021
Rose Elizabeth  SWIFT

Not seeing an 1894/5 birth entry for Rose Elizabeth  Mc/MacDonald Greenwich

You could be right about their daughter being born before their marriage, too much of a coincidence with the name if not. Her parents were quite young when they married, so perhaps permission wasn't given before. She must have been about 6 months pregnant with her second child when they married, so maybe their parents gave in, or perhaps it was Thomas's parents who refused and so he had to wait until he was 21.

I’m still not seeing a Rose Elizabeth SWIFT born c 1877 Lamberhurst Kent/Tierhurst Sussex
on the 1881 census with father named John occ Labourer

May just be a coincidence further investigation needed

There is this 1881c entry for a Rose Elizabeth born c1877 Lamberhurst Kent
with a father named John occ Ag. Labourer BUT surname MARSH living
Brickfield Cottages The Downs, Lamberhurst Sussex

RG11; Piece: 1048; Folio: 50; Page: 6;
John MARSH 25 Lamberhurst occ Ag labourer
Fanny 21 London
ROSE E 4 Lamberhurst Kent
John S 2
Kate J 2mths

This looks like the same family on 1891c but no Rose

RG12; Piece: 683; Folio: 56; Page: 24
John Thos MARSH 34 occ Ag Labourer
Rose Eliz FANNY 28 Croydon Surrey
Sam John 12 Lamberhurst Sussex
Katie Jane 10  ditto
Florance Alice 8
Ada Harriett 6
William Chas 4
Ellen Caroline 2
Anne 1 mth Brenchley Kent

and on 1901

RG13; Piece: 544; Folio: 95; Page: 27
John MARSH Head M 45 Lamberhurst Ag Lab., Samuel J 22, Florence A 18, William 14
plus two boarders Jane E STREVENS 46 Housekeeper & William 10
No wife Fanny with him on either census - can't post details but John noted as married on
latest census and has a housekeeper  :-X

This might be John with his parents on 1871c
